예수살렘 사중주단의 스메타나와 야나체크의 명곡집. 체코를 대표하는 최고의 작곡가 스메타나의 현악 사중주 1번은 그의 말년 1876년 작품으로 자신의 인생과 청각 상실의 고통을 담고 있는 자서전적인 첫 표제 실내악 음악이다. 흥겨운 폴카는 행복했던 젊은 시절 나타내며, 4악장은 민요적 선율과 함께 청력을 잃어 버린 후의 좌절과 불안이 담겨 있다. 야나체크의 현악 사중주 1번은 불륜에 빠진 아내를 주인공(남편)이 살해한다는 내용의 톨스토이의 소설 '크로이처 소나타'로 부터 영감을 받아 작곡되어진 곡으로 표현주의적인 자유로운 멜로디가 돋보인다. 현악 사중주 2번 '비밀 편지'는 야나체크가 늦은 나이에 사랑에 빠진 유부녀 카밀라에 대한 감정을 표현한 것으로 그는 실제로 죽을 까지 그녀에게 수많은 편지를 보냈다고 한다. 작곡가의 개인적인 이야기와 감성이 담겨있는 명곡들은 예수살렘 사중주단은 수채화처럼 아름답고 정물화처럼 매우 섬세하게 연주하고 있다.
